Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building - Eighth edition 2010/2011 - The Jury of the eighth edition of Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building has met on February 25th, 2011 in Vicenza (April 2011) The Jury of the eighth edition of Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building, promoted by ALA - Assoarchitetti, l'Arca and Regione del Veneto, has met on February 25th, 2011 in Vicenza. The prize-winners are to be announced on June 24, 2011 in Vicenza.
This edition has been characterized by an increase of enrolments and selected projects and by the participation of 52 countries among which the new entries of Lebanon, Algeria, Namibia, Thailand, Ecuador, Finland, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Liberia, Luxembourg and Republic of Mali; a large target of clients, composed by companies, private citizens, organization, foundations, associations, young architect and public administrations among which the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the municipality of Andalucia, Barcelona, Ventspils (Latvia), Krakow (Poland).
340 the projects that were admitted to the Jury selection out of 700 enrolments, that faced topics inspired by the social and economic sustainability; works inspired by Design for All; by the use of the natural light; by the sustainable use of the territory, of resources and energy; by the enhancement of the environment, the landscape and the architectural heritage and by the valorisation of traditions and local languages.
The nominated Jury was composed by Gianni Arnaudo, architect, Italy; Mario Botta, architect of the client whose commission which won the 2007/2008 award, Switzerland; Paolo Caoduro, main sponsor of the Prize, Italy; Cesare M. Casati, editor-in-chief, l'ARCA, Italy; Bruno Gabbiani, ALA-Assoarchitetti President, Italy; Richard Haslam, architectural historian, Great Britain; Richard Meier, architect of the client whose commission which won the 2007/2008 award, USA; Luca Molinari, curator of Italian Pavilion at the 12th International Biennale of Architecture, Italy; Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi, architecture critic, Italy; Peter Reichegger, client whose commission won the 2007/2008 award, Italia; Giorgio Santilli, Il Sole 24 Ore assignment editor and Edilizia e Territorio editor, Italy; Piero Sartogo, architect, Italy; Roberto Tretti, president of the Study Centre for Self-Employed Professionals, Italy; spokesperson of the President of the Veneto Regional Government. For the Organizing Committee: Stefano Battaglia, architect, Italy and Marcella Gabbiani, architect, Italy.
Dedalo Minosse Prize is unique in the world and recognizes the Client's figure as fundamental and strategic in the constructive process. The recognition of a positive and stimulating role that creates, with architects' ability, the good architecture.
Open to private and public clients from all over the world, the aim of the award is to select architecture works already finished, as good practice of the contemporary architecture research that confirms the quality given by a fruitful collaboration between the architect and the client.
The selected candidates' names are to be announced to the press during the Prize-giving ceremony, which will take place in Vicenza on June 24, 2011.
The exhibition of the awarded works, set in CISA, Centro Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio, in Vicenza will be opened from June 25, 2011 to September 18, 2011.
