Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building - Seventh edition 2007/2008 (September 2007)
Outstanding architecture is always the result of a combination of relations and achieved balances between the architect and the promoter of the architectural work.
The Dedalo Minosse is a biennal prize that celebrates the value of the project and highlights the importance of commissioning, which is often negletted in the discussion on architecture, forgetting that a good quality building can be realized only if there is a good fusion between the architect and the client of the work.
Promoted by ALA - Assoarchitetti together with the international architecture and design magazine l'ARCA, the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building is about to start its seventh edition - 2007/2008, which is also the decennial from its foundation.
Open to private and public clients from all over the world, the aim of the award is to select architectural works already finished, as good practice of the contemporary architecture research, that confirms the quality given by a fruitful collaboration between the architect and the client.
The subscription campaign starts on the 10th of September 2007 and closes by the end of January 2008. The past edtion 2005/2006, celebrated in the outstanding framework of the palladian city Vicenza, involved about 500 partecipants, from more than 30 countries, representing all the 5 continents.
The touring exhibition of the past edition is still around the world. The Dedalo Minosse 2005/2006, after it has been exhibited at the Biennal of Architecture of Venice, Beijin, and Guatemala in the past Autumn, it has recently been to San Francisco, hosted by the AIA's chapter of San Francisco, and to Milan, at the international architectural fair "Build Up Expo". Among the next stops of the exhibition, several italian (Rome, Florence, Naple, Turin) and foreign cities (London, Paris, Madrid, New York, Boston, Chicago).
The novelty of the next edition 2007/2008, is a new section enterely dedicated to videos of architecture, which is one of the best tool for the diffusion and communication of the culture of the quality of architecture.
In the past editions the Dedalo Minosse prize awarded first-class clients, among those the Airport of Kuala Lumpur, Benetton, the city of Berlino, Madrid, Palermo, Vienna, ESO, the English, Italian, Spanish, Swedish Government, Medusa Cinematografica, Nardini, National Trust of England, Porsche, Products Roche, Vodafone, with project signed by architects as Asymptote Architecture N.Y., Gae Aulenti, Dante O. Benini, Mario Botta, Gary Chang, Massimiliano Fuksas, gmp-architekten Von Gerkan, Volker Giencke, Hans Hollein, Hideto Horiike, Kisho Kurokawa, Richard Meier, Eric Owen Moss, Massimo Pica Ciamarra, Miguel Angel Roca, Piero Sartogo, Francisco Serrano, Studio 65.
For the upcoming edition 2007/2008, this is the draft of the program:
- subscription campaign: 10th September 2007 - 31st January 2008;
- jury's meeting: February 2008;
- round table: afternoon or evening of the 8th of May 2008;
- press conference: morning of the 9th of May 2008;
- awarding cerimony: afternoon of the 9th of May 2008;
- opening of the exhibition of the awarded architectural works: evening of the 9th of May 2008;
- guided tour around monuments of Vicenza: 10th of May 2008.
