The Dedalo Minosse Prize is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The fact that it coincides with the 500th anniversary of Palladio means the Vicenza event is doubly important, deeply rooted in its setting but also open to the world. The Prize, originally of a regional nature but then extended to encompass the entire country for the second edition, went on to take on international status at the third edition. Growth beyond even the expectations of those who promoted it, testifying to the originality of this idea, which lends an ear to the need for fruitful and conscientious dialogue and interaction between the various players involved in a science like architecture, which more than other trades, call for a complex, multi-disciplinary process. In need, first and foremost, of both public and private clients, at time overexposed, but, on the whole, never sufficiently acknowledged for the key role they play in intelligently allocating resources to cater for their own needs and those of society. And, secondly, in need of architects, for whom this prize provides the change to become fully aware of their own tasks and also to learn to listen to demands and requirements of both clients and users, adopting an ethical attitude to carrying out projects. Finally, these dialectical relations also actively involved public administrations, associations, builders and manufacturers of materials, who play a key part in determining the successful outcome of any project. The Prize is increasingly becoming a sort of watchtower on architectural design, focusing on the environmental, social and economic values with which aesthetic decisions must constantly come to terms. And all this, bearing in mind the various different scales of projects (from private housing to major infrastructures) and different types of clients (from occasional clients to real estate agents), provides the change not just to celebrate great opportunities and big names, but also the kind of everyday quality that can lie as much in small as big projects.
